My very best goes out to 1st Vice Chair Beth Fukumoto, who by Party Rules will be the Interim State Chair. As a candidate in 2010, Beth understands the importance of a grassroots-focused party for all candidates. My hope is that everyone will offer their support, guidance and assistance as this transition takes place.

Less than a week after the President presented his jobs plan, Americans voted to send two new Republicans to Washington—an overwhelming rebuke of the Obama Administration and its policies!

For all of us across the nation, our thoughts are turned to the lives that were lost due to the tragic events that took place on September 11, 2001.

When I was considering serving as State Chair, I was told by Former State Chair, Governor Linda Lingle, that I would not understand what it meant to be the chair until I served as Chair. Having now served a full term and having been re-elected to serve yet another term as your State Chair, I find these to be great words of wisdom and completely true!

Hawaii Republican Party Chairman Jonah Kaauwai said, “Now that President Obama has announced that he will be seeking a second term, voters in Hawaii and across the Nation need to ask themselves if they are better off now than they were two and a half years ago."

 Do our Senators and Representatives support President Obama’s decision to take action against Qaddafi without congressional approval?  Do they support full regime change or some other limited action?  If they oppose military action, why have they been silent?

The Governor wants to create taxes for soda, beer and retirement income, he wants to cut funding to Medicare, social services, the Hawaii Tourism Authority and let Aloha Stadium fall apart, just so public sector unions do not have to face furloughs ....

Hawaii GOP Chair Jonah Kaauwai release a statement on Rep. Colleen Hanabusa's announcement that she was unable to secure the Hawaii seat on the House Appropriations Committee that her campaign had promised.

“I would like to congratulate our new RNC Chairman on his election.  I am proud to have joined the other Island members of the RNC in voting for Chairman Priebus."

Rep. Hanabusa and Senator Inouye assured voters last October that she would get a seat on the powerful Appropriation Committee if elected and that has turned out to be nothing more than an empty campaign promise.

As many of you know, Tom has proudly represented the values of our party for years as a volunteer in the community, member of the Ewa Neighborhood Board and as a candidate for the State House.  His years of dedication and service to his community have clearly been recognized by voters in this Special Election.

Just because Neil Abercrombie has had an extreme makeover on the outside, it does not mean his radical ideas and values have cleaned up.  In fact, on the inside, he is just as extreme as he was in the 1970s. 

“Inouye backed Colleen Hanabusa in May’s special election for Hawaii’s first congressional district.  She came in second place and is still defying political analysts who believed the seat was a safe Democrat seat by polling behind Republican Charles Djou in recent polls.  Inouye also backed Mufi Hannemann for governor and Kirk Caldwell for mayor, both of whom lost their election."

...she claimed that the Hawaii Republican Party's gesture of support and goodwill was simply a 'stunt'....

“Some are asking ‘where is the local and national Democrats’ plan?’ and I remind them that it is already being implemented, and here in Hawaii has been the norm for over four decades.  Higher taxes and fees, more spending, bigger government, less liberty and doing whatever union bosses tell them to.  That’s the Democrat’s ‘Pledge.’  They should have the guts to put it on paper and roll it out the way Republicans have.”

“Just last week, Congressman Charles Djou cast his vote in the Primary election for Hawaii’s First Congressional District. His main opponent, however, has not cast her vote yet. In fact, she will not be voting in this election. As a candidate asking for the vote of the people, it’s worth asking: ‘If Colleen Hanabusa won’t be voting for herself, why should anyone else?’"

"The HGEA Union Bosses have made it clear that a prerequisite for their endorsement is a commitment from candidates to raise the GET tax in order to pay them off.  Hannemann, Schatz and Caldwell need to come clean with Hawaii voters and tell them how big of an increase they promised so we know just how much more in taxes we can expect to pay if they get elected."

“Democrats in the Senate have tried every trick in the book to prevent Governor Linda Lingle from appointing the next Chief Justice. They put a question on the ballot to change the retirement age for judges which was voted down by voters and now they are trying to vote down an obviously qualified judge, with Judiciary Chair Brian Tanaguchi telling the media after the hearing that the five men on the list were all qualified. This is height of hypocrisy."

“Democrat legislators pushed to bring this bill back to life on the last day of the legislative session, but where are those arrogant legislators today?  Speaker Calvin Say is afraid to call a special session because his unstable rule over the House of Representatives is in jeopardy and he wants to avoid an attempt by dissident Democrats to overthrow him."

“Hannemann has had months to formulate an opinion on one of the state’s most pressing issues.  In the past Hannemann dodged taking a stand on HB 444 because he wasn’t an official candidate.  Now that he’s announced and all the fan fare is over, he continues to skirt the issue.  It is clear Mufi lacks the courage and backbone to speak to his values."

“Hannemann has raised property taxes, sewer fees, admission fees, motor vehicle fees, parking meter rates and pushed for the general excise tax increase. Under his watch, Honolulu was named the 2nd most expensive city to do business in.  He is leaving office early to campaign for Governor, and he's given no guarantee that he will not jump ship again to run for U.S. Senate in 2012.

“Hawai’i can expect the same reckless leadership, strong-arming from the old guard Democrat network and closed-door bargaining with public labor union bosses at the state level with Hannemann as Hawai’i’s governor.

“This November, Republican candidates will be the voices of bold leadership and change Hawai’i needs.  We are confident in the leadership of Lt. Governor Duke Aiona and know Hawai’i voters recognize his commitment to enhancing Hawai’i’s economy through responsible government spending and investment in the private sector.”

“Since the healthcare debate heated up in March, over 7,617 jobs were lost every day.  Not only did Congress fail to address the most important issues of the day—jobs and the economy—but they passed legislation that is guaranteed to hurt businesses and negatively impact jobs.  Hawai'i needs congressional representation that works for our concerns, for our jobs and most importantly, for our families.

“We have a unique opportunity here in Hawai'i come May.  We can, must and will elect Republican Charles Djou to Congress, gain a champion of fiscal accountability, individual responsibility for Hawai’i and return independent, effective leadership to Congress.”

"With this endorsement, Hanabusa, like other public union soldiers in the legislature, remains beholden to a lobbying group that protects its own interests, even at the expense of Hawai'i’s children.”

The problem is not our students or its teachers.  The problems lie in the political power structure within the State of Hawai'i.  Democrats, who are well known to be controlled by union money, have remained unwilling to create solutions.  Any proposed changes to an unaccountable system would mean certain electoral losses which is why our children and Hawai`i's families remain political pawns to the unions' games.

The people of Hawai'i are tired of tax and spend policies that leave future generations with a huge financial burden.  Republican Charles Djou is the only candidate in this race who can bring the kind of fiscal accountability to Washington that the people of Hawai'i and the nation deserve.

Has Mufi’s strong fundraising lead and widespread appeal threatened Abercrombie’s run for governor, so much that he has to bail from one office to run fulltime for another?  Is he so afraid of his vote record and the tough votes that are pending in Congress?  Perhaps he’s embarrassed by the $3.5 million earmark he proposed for a company whose president co-chairs his gubernatorial campaign. 

With discussions stalled until mid-December, public unions bosses are showing their priorities do not lie with Hawai'i’s children.  They simply ignore the financial reality the rest of Hawai'i has already begun to face.  Instead of reallocating from the DOE/BOE bureaucracy, these uncaring public union leaders are mercilessly pulling more money from teachers’ pockets and valuable class time from students.

Hawai`i’s teachers and students are pawns in a larger game of political power and control.  The discussion today should be about the DOE’s massive waste and ways to trim it instead of what our children will be doing for the 17 days off.

Read between the lines of Sen. Hooser’s commentary and you will see the only idea he has is to increase taxes on Hawai'i’s already overtaxed citizens.  We need elected officials who can make difficult decisions and solve complicated problems, not hope someone else will find a solution.

In truth, Randy Perreira makes over $150,000 a year on dues from union members!  Randy knows he clears at least $25,000 a year more than the Governor, herself, who is taking a voluntary pay cut and furlough.  In typical, arrogant, Union Boss fashion, Perreira fails to mention that he isn't taking any pay cut, himself, nor is he offering to reduce the monthly dues for the hard-working rank and file to ease the hardship.  With these greedy bosses, it's always, "Do as I say, not as I do!"

People of Hawai’i, I am standing here with you because I am sick and tired of the strangle hold that the arrogant and greedy union bosses and there puppet legislature have on Hawai’i.

Our Senate President Colleen Hanabusa has said that you are used to paying higher taxes.  Which tells me that Senator Hanabusa and her tax and spend friends in the legislature will continue to stick us with the bill unless we get them out of office.

We, the principled, honest and hardworking people of Hawai’i have allowed selfish corruption, personal gain, and special interests to determine the future of our children. As the Republican Party Chair, I am telling you -- NO MORE, NO WAY, and, NOT ON MY WATCH!!!

Union leaders are playing with their members livelihoods! And they are calling for an increase in GE Taxes! The union bosses are pushing their membership to rally at the Capital June 30th, from 4:30 to 6:00 PM. We need you to call radio shows, write letters to the editor and call/email Senator Hanabusa and Speaker Say to let them know your cost of living is already too high. Want to be part of the solution? My goal and commitment to you in 2010 is to help elect a Republican Governor, a member of Congress and more Republicans to the legislature, council races and Board of Education.  As Party Chairman, I will work to ensure that Republicans contest all Legislative seats so that Hawaii voters have real choices on election day.
