Superferry Update: A rat, a coward, and thin-skinned pseudo intellectuals
By Andrew Walden @ 7:48 AM :: 22065 Views :: Hawaii County , Kauai County, Maui County, Environment, Development

“After reading the alarming tract, I wanted to know whether Albertini -- who went to prison for a year (many years ago) for trying to block a Navy vessel in Hilo Harbor -- will be putting his life and/or freedom on the line along with the novice activists he is counseling.
“The answer? No. Not only is Albertini not going to protest the Superferry, he claims he didn’t even know his “non-violent” call to arms was even published."

Why Hawaii needs $2 million “for the promotion of astronomy”
By Andrew Walden @ 12:35 AM :: 11754 Views :: Greenmail
|
It was such a simple question. Debating earmarks on the Senate floor, John McCain demanded of Dan Inouye: "We're going to spend $2 million for the promotion of astronomy in Hawaii….Why do we need $2 million to promote astronomy in Hawaii when unemployment is going up and the stock market is tanking?"
Reporters soon determined the $2 million was for the Imiloa Astronomy Center in Hilo, Hawaii. But the usual liberally deficient commentators have proven completely unable to answer the question “why”?

Obama and the Disunited States
By Andrew Walden @ 8:10 AM :: 17270 Views :: National News, Ethics, World News, Family
|
President Obama's rise caps forty years of building new 'nations' from one America, as America's left adapted to the rise of civil rights, and built a power base from fanning discontent.
Newsweek cheers, "We are all socialists now!" MSNBC's Jim Cramer calls Barack Obama's budget a "radical agenda" and points out "This is the greatest wealth destruction I've seen by a President." None of this should be a surprise to anybody who was paying attention to Obama's Hawaii links to the Communist Party, USA or his years of Chicago work with the Democratic Socialists of America. But many voters -- and most of the media -- aggressively avoided paying attention. Now they are literally paying the price.
One Obama mentor who did get some media attention was ex-Communist Saul Alinsky. Alinsky, a harsh critic of Johnson's "War on Poverty," is not usually tied to gigantic federal spending proposals such as Obama's mis-named ‘stimulus' package. Alinsky's claim to fame stems from gritty street-level community organizing. His books on the subject guided a generation of leftist activists.
But there is a connection. Alinsky died in 1972. Towards the end of his life, American society changed in ways which tore apart the stable communities necessary to Alinsky's community organizing model. For Democrats these changes necessitated the use of federal power to create the entirely new forms of consciousness-based ‘nationalism' which now envelop American culture.

The Obama-Auchi Connection: First Hawaiian Bank avoids subprime lending, makes record profit
By Andrew Walden @ 12:34 PM :: 8920 Views
|
Interestingly, First Hawaiian's ownership structure leads back to BNP Paribas, a large French bank. According to the website of Cipaf, an investment vehicle of Nadhmi Auchi’s General Mediterranean Holdings (GMH), Cipaf is “amongst the topmost investors in the enlarged BNP Paribas.”* Nadhmi Auchi, a former Iraqi Baathist official of Saddam Hussein's government, more recently financed business ventures with now-convicted-felon and Chicago political 'fixer' Tony Rezko creating a condition of "longstanding indebtedness" of Rezko to Auchi's holding company. Rezko funded the political campaigns of impeached Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich and President Barack Obama. Rezko also assisted Obama in the purchase of his Chicago mansion.

Kenoi Fundraiser payout? Gotti lawyer on Pali murder case
By Andrew Walden @ 12:53 PM :: 9930 Views

Update Jan 31: Hear Malu Motta tapes -- "Like, he did them like nothin', know what I mean?"
Admitted Pali Golf Course shooter Ethan “Malu” Motta apparently had a lot of friends in Hilo—including politicians. Nine months after the January 7, 2004 O`ahu murders, hundreds of Motta’s friends gathered at Hilo’s Nani Mau Gardens to raise funds to help pay his legal fees. Billy Kenoi spoke at the event. Stacey Higa says he was given tickets. One source indicates “700 to 1,000 people” were there. The $100 tickets for the October 30, 2004 “Gathering at the Garden” invite supporters “to share this beautiful evening with family, friends and dignitaries in support of a very special man we love dearly.” A ticket obtained by Hawai`i Free Press, says the event was “Hosted by Billy K. Live & Direct.”

Michael Steele elected Chair, Republican National Committee
By Andrew Walden @ 3:22 PM :: 3249 Views
|
Working to seek voters among a 90% Democrat community may seem an exercise in Republican futility, but in a democracy, it is an inherently unstable arrangement for 90% of any electorate to consistently vote one way. Black voters tip the balance in favor of Democrats in Missouri, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware, and Maryland. Republicans need only gain 20-30% of the black vote to dramatically shift the balance of power in some or all of these states.

Ceded lands: OHA’s attack on constitutional rights
By Andrew Walden @ 2:21 PM :: 10118 Views

All citizens should be alarmed that the Office of Hawaiian Affairs is attempting to use political pressure to force the State of Hawai`i to abandon its “ceded lands” appeal to the US Supreme Court. OHA apparently expects to lose out in any Supreme Court decision. In spite of the fact that 32 other states support Hawai`i’s appeal, OHA does not respect the right to have the case heard before the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court to hear Ceded Lands Case
By Andrew Walden @ 2:03 AM :: 5523 Views
|
The State is asking the High Court to overturn the Hawai`i State Supreme Court’s January, 2008 decision holding that the United States Congress in the 1993 “Apology Resolution” had forbidden the State from selling or exchanging any of the State’s approximately 1.2 million acres of so-called “Ceded Lands”, unless and until a political settlement was reached with Native Hawaiians. The State argued to the High Court that the United States Congress had done no such thing and that Congress has no power to try to control the sale of lands belonging to a sovereign state.
