Housing dominates Grassroot testimony submitted to Hawaii's four county councils

from Grassroot Institute

Grassroot Institute of Hawaii staff have had a lot to say about housing recently before the state's four county councils.

Priorities include preserving property rights, lifting onerous regulations, pushing back against proposals that could negatively impact local residents, and supporting efforts to rebuild after the devastating Maui wildfires of a year ago.

Hawai‘i County

>> Bill 121 — "New STR regulations could harm local families, small businesses"

>> Bill 123 — "Scrap redundant permit process, limitations to building ADUs"

>> Bill 144 — "Lessen regulation to let local beekeeping industry flourish"

>> Bill 174 — "Apply homeowner exemption to all who rent out part of property"

Honolulu County

>> Bill 39 — "Don’t add red tape to bill that would remove affidavit requirement"

>> Bill 40 — "Allow self-certification for energy projects to cut permitting backlog"

>> Bill 46 — "Reject empty homes tax, focus on policies that work"

>> Bill 47 — "Allow tax exemption for ‘aina kupuna’ properties"

>> Bill 48 — "Incentivize long-term rentals, but ditch rollback penalties"

>> Bill 64 — "Bill 64 restrictions would harm small farms, apiaries"

Kaua‘i County

>> Bill 2919 — "One guest house per dwelling another way to add housing"

Maui County

>> Bill 110 — "Let Maui property owners rebuild without paying for street repairs"
