Clayton Hee Trying to Sneak Back into the State Senate

UPDATE Monday, June 3, 2024:  Republican Sen Brenton Awa pulled and filed today.  Democrats Clayton Hee and Ben Shafer filed their nomination petitions.  Nobody else pulled papers for the race.  All three are on the ballot.  In November, Awa will face the winner of the Hee v Shafer SD23 Democratic Primary.

While Al Hee focuses on cutting off telephone and internet service to 1,500 Hawaiian Homelands families, his brother, the “egotistical, quick to anger, and bipolar” Clayton Hee, is trying to sneak back into the State Senate.

Clayton Hee pulled papers May 31 to run in the Senate District 23 (North Shore) Democratic Primary.

The only other candidate to pull papers is Ben Shafer, also for the Democratic Primary.

Nobody has yet filed nomination papers in the race.

As a public service, we are providing a handy anti-Hee election mailer for use by any candidate: LINK.

With the June 4 candidate registration deadline rapidly approaching, Senate District 23 incumbent Brenton Awa has not pulled papers.

Senator Awa is one of only two Senate Republicans.

Candidates have until Tuesday June 4, 2024 to file their nomination signatures.

By suing for five strategically placed years, 2011 to 2016, to block Hoopili and Koa Ridge, Clayton Hee may have done more to make housing unaffordable than any single person in Hawaii.  The resulting imbalance of supply and demand means that houses in those subdivisions are now selling over $1M.

Clayton Hee left the Senate in 2014 for a failed run for Lt Governor—he was thumped by Shan Tsutsui.

Any candidate wishing to stop the return of one of the Senate’s most notorious politicians will need to pull papers Monday morning and file before close of business Tuesday.
