The Hawaii State Legislature is currently considering a bill that significantly expands the existing assault weapons ban, including stricter regulations on assault rifles, shotguns, and high-capacity magazines.

Key Aspects of the Proposed Bill:

-Expansion of Assault Weapons Ban: The bill proposes to amend the definition of prohibited assault weapons to include assault rifles, assault shotguns, .50 caliber rifles, and attachments that convert firearms into assault-style weapons. This would in effect, ban ALL semi-automatic rifles with a detachable magazine and owning any spare parts to repair them. It would ban ALL AR and AK pattern rifles as well as many others by name, Regardless of features.

-Change to Assault Pistols BAN: It seeks to update the regulations surrounding assault pistols, banning pistols with any single feature. For example, a threaded barrel

-Restrictions on High-Capacity Magazines: The bill aims to expand the ban on high-capacity magazines, applying it to any magazine capable of holding more than ten rounds.

-Prohibition on Importation and Transfer: It would be unlawful to bring or transfer assault rifles and shotguns into the state. You could not travel with your firearms if they meet the definition of an assault weapon.

-Exceptions for Law Enforcement;: The bill creates exceptions for the acquisition and possession of prohibited firearms by members of law enforcement.
