Former Kahuku resident Iam Tongi sang his way into the nation's heart as the winner of TV's latest "American Idol" talent competition. But he also brought attention to why so many Hawaii residents, such as Tongi's family, have moved to the mainland.

In the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii's last "Hawaii Matters" video on YouTube, narrator Joe Kent highlights some of the factors have led to Hawaii being one of the most expensive places to live in the U.S., and what both Hawaii and federal lawmakers can to to change it.
