Where it Pays to be a Nurse

from SimpleNursing.com

Nursing is one of the most difficult careers in the workforce, but are nurses being paid fairly for their long hours and hard work? We explored data from the IPUMS-CPS and the latest BLS release to determine how much nurses are being paid and if their compensation was enough to cover the new cost of living.

Turns out:

  • The average salary for nurses in Hawaii is $104.8k, but higher costs of living make their earnings feel more like $55.1k
  • Women make up 88% of the nursing field, yet men make nearly $18k more each year
  • Nurses 50+ make the highest salary at $67.3K, on average - around $17.4K more than those in their 20s

Here is the full study from SimpleNursing.

While the salaries for nurses in Hawaii might look good on paper, factoring in the ever-increasing cost of living shows that nurses might not be living as comfortably as you’d think. In fact, the high cost of living makes Hawaii nurses the lowest-salaried nurses in the nation.
