Everyone wants their house to feel like home, but with inflation, supply chain delays, and labor shortages, home improvement projects are getting pricier.

So, where will a home renovation or remodel be most likely to break the bank?

To mark National Home Improvement Month, Lawn Love ranked 2022’s Most Expensive Cities for Home Improvement. 

How does Honolulu stack up?  10th overall.

Average State Mortgage Rate - 15th
Cost of Living Index - 4th
Construction Suppliers per Square Mile - 155th
Average Annual Household Income* - 150th

* We considered a lower Average Annual Household Income as “worse,” as it translates to lower spending ability. The lowest ranking number (e.g., 1st) therefore corresponds with the “most expensive” city and a higher one (e.g., 200th) with the “most affordable.”

We ranked 200 cities based on 16 key indicators of renovation pricy-ness, such as pros’ hourly rates, the average age of homes, access to labor and supplies, and average household spending on home improvement.
