FAMILIAR FACES PLAY POLITICAL (D) MUSICAL CHAIRS:

King steps down, Cochran steps in, McKelvey also going for new higher office(s).

Hawai'i Free Press, March 22, 2022

Council member Kelly King who represents South Maui announced that she will be stepping down from her Council seat; she did not indicate her future political plans but there is speculation she will run for the State House representing S. Maui now held by Tina Wildberger.

King made her announcement alongside Robin Knox who will be facing King’s 2020 opponent Tom Cook in the 2022 South Maui council race.

Wildberger has not announced her future plans either but speculation has it she will try for the State Senate seat representing South and West Maui now held by Roz Baker. Baker is rumored to be considering retirement.

Yesterday Angus McKelvey pulled papers to run for the seat that Baker now holds (District 6). McKelvey also pulled papers for the US House seat (CD2). McKelvey has represented W. Maui in the state house since 2006.

Also resuming her political career is Elle Cochran former county council member and unsuccessful 2018 mayoral candidate, who pulled papers to represent W. Maui in the state house.

All of the candidates announced and unannounced are Democrats in what promises to be a lively round of political musical chairs.
