DJOU: WE NEED A BUDGET

Washington, DC — Congressman Charles Djou (HI-01) released the following statement after House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer announced that the majority in Congress will fail to pass a budget this year:

“The biggest concern I hear about on a regular basis from my constituents is the out-of-control spending in Washington, D.C.  We’re simply spending too much money on programs that don’t work with no plan to pay it back. This is irresponsible.

“The announcement today by House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer that the House will not pass a budget this year for the Federal Government compounds this irresponsible behavior. The American people deserve to know how Congress intends to spend the public’s money. Today’s announcement is the sort of reckless governing I have always stood against in my political career.

“To the majority in Congress and to my colleagues on the Budget Committee: ‘Let’s get to work and pass a budget.’”

Until now, the House has passed a budget every year since the modern budget rules were put in place in 1974.

Congressman John Spratt, who chairs the Budget Committee, said in 2006: “If you can’t budget, you can’t govern.”
