Requirement calling for triple pay on state holidays removed from Senate Bill

From NFIB Hawaii, March 1, 2015

We are near the midpoint of the Hawaii legislative session, with the first crossover (date the bills move into their non-originating house) deadline approaching on March 12.

Among many issues NFIB Hawaii has advocated on this session, Senate Bill 234 was particularly objectionable. It originally proposed a requirement that retail employees receive triple pay on state holidays. The bill received a hearing in the Senate Committee on Commerce & Consumer Protection and NFIB Hawaii opposed the measure. It has been amended to eliminate the triple-pay provision, but it still contains a prohibition on retaliatory action against an employee who refuses to work on a state holiday.

Reminder: please join your legislators for an informal reception at the capitol hosted by NFIB on Friday, March 13 at 4 p.m. NFIB members are invited and encouraged to attend to discuss in greater detail the critical business issues that we face as independent business owners.
