Dana Ireland might have survived if ‘rescuers’ hadn’t wasted time arguing

Shapiro: … She was then raped and left to die in a thorn bush along a fishing trail. Though her condition was dire when she was discovered, she might have survived if police dispatchers hadn’t been slow to send an ambulance, with bad directions, and if rescuers hadn’t wasted time arguing whether to risk their vehicles on the rough rural road….

Randy Roth: Police And Prosecutors Were Irresponsible And Inept In Dana Ireland Case

CB: … DNA in semen recovered from the victim’s body, perpetrator’s shirt, and surrounding area had all come from a single unknown individual, yet the Big Island police and prosecutors said this only meant the Schweitzers had an unidentified accomplice. Former Damien president makes explosive claims in whistleblower lawsuit

HNN: … The former president of Damien Memorial School, Arnold Laanui, says he was fired for trying to clean up a culture of corruption around the school’s winning football program. He’s filed a retaliation lawsuit against the school.

Among Laanui’s allegations are a cover-up of a student group sex incident on campus and illegal scholarships funded by alumni.

Laanui said his law enforcement and educational background, including a doctorate in education and a law degree, made him the right person to turn around longtime financial and leadership issues at Damien, but his lawsuit filed Friday said what he discovered was far worse than he’d ever dreamed

What I was dealing with multiple dumpster fires,” Laanui told Hawaii News Now in an exclusive interview. “Every single month that went by, a new significant issue would bubble up.”

When Laanui started as president and CEO of Damien in 2022, he said he was alarmed to learn that audits had found poor fiscal controls and a lack of cooperation with the auditors.

But then it got worse.

“Our athletic director came to me and advised that there had been a group sex incident that took place amongst our football players and one of our female students,” he said.

The lawsuit said it happened in the school gym at a football team sleep over. Even if consensual, Laanui said it violated student conduct codes and safe environment rules required at all Catholic institutions after decades of prior sex abuse scandals, including at Damien….

As Big as Rail: Sea Level Lies Could Bring on New Boondoggle

Borreca: … Plans to deal with high water range from stop-gap measures to the weird. For instance, the news report says flatly, “Waikiki Beach is not going to be the same in the next 50 years.”

This, however, does not just mean more errant waves splashing the sidewalks; it is the disappearance of landmarks.

To address the ocean rise, the report says, there is more discussion about “raising Waikiki’s streets into walkways to allow water to run under or more canals or build a boardwalk.”

Some of those suggestions sound far-fetched, but now is the time for some hard decisions — and probably a lot of public money….

REALITY: Sea level rise is 3mm per year.  In 100 years 300mm = 11.8 inches.  Its’ just not a big deal.
