‘Defend Hawaii’ – Maui PD and EMTs Conspire to Chase ‘Hunted’ Tourist-Victims Away

MN: … The Luceros were rescued in the early morning hours of June 5 and were eventually hospitalized as a result of their hike of 10,000 feet to the Haleakala Observatory. They say it was a forced hike in a desperate attempt seeking rescue from an armed assailant and accomplices that “hunted them with drones” after stealing their car at gunpoint.

After their story has made international news, the Lucero’s are frustrated by local official’s response and how they were treated throughout the ordeal that continues to play out in the Second Circuit Court and the Second District Court in Maui county.

On June 24, 12 charges against Helmer stemming from the June 4 incident and another on June 3, involving two local residents, were dropped without prejudice and remanded from the Second District Court in Wailuku to the Second Circuit Court. On the same day, eight counts were brought up against Helmer in the second circuit court for the incident that took place on June 4.

(TRANSLATION: Two of the criminals escape justice.)

Helmer is being held at the Maui Community Correctional Center in Wailuku on previous pending felony charges and his bail for the June 4 incident is set at $500,000, for which a hearing was held on Wednesday to determine if presiding Judge Michelle Drewyer will allow Helmer to post bail.

Helmer was initially being held on nine felony charges that were filed on May 30 for a separate incident that occurred between May 10-11. On June 10, Helmer pleaded not guilty to the nine felony charges and three misdemeanors in the separate case. The felony charges included three kidnapping felony counts….

(SOFT ON CRIME: Helmer was already in jail for the same type of crime.  The courts let him back out.)

The Luceros are thankful to be alive, but most importantly they wanted people to be made more aware of what happened to them and how they have been treated in the aftermath.

“We were in this grave danger being hunted by this guy (Helmer) and a couple of his friends and had to hike 10,000 feet unknowingly in a matter of 22 and a half hours for our life and the minute that we are saved, we’re being interrogated like we did something wrong,” Alex Lucero said.

“I want to leave room for there to have been just a bit of communication error,” Justina says in retrospect of the day they were found. “But once we finally got with the medics – when we were sitting in the back of the police car and AMR is there, the medic comes out and just started yelling at me. At first I thought it was a joke. I couldn’t believe it. I’m sitting in the back of a cop car filthy, barefoot with a blanket on not having had rest in 22 plus hours running for my life, she starts berating me and telling me that they are not a taxi service. And that if I like to walk so much, I can walk myself to the emergency room.”

(CLUE: This is why the Miske Gang slogan is ‘Defend Hawaii’)

Justina says they were refused medical services when they were initially found and that the Luceros had to “convince the police to take them to the emergency room.” The Luceros were eventually admitted to the hospital and held overnight….

(CLUE: Nobody needed to line these conspirators up in advance.  They all knew exactly what to do because they do it all the time.)

“The moment that we got into police custody, and were being almost interrogated by a specific sergeant who was making it like it was almost our,” Alex stops to name the specific individual he felt treated him and his wife like the perpetrators of a crime, rather than victims of a horrendous experience. The sergeant he names was just promoted to the rank of sergeant the year before.

(CLUE: Maui News covering up the name of the MPD Sergeant.)

He later says the police made the Luceros give their statement in the parking lot because police refused to take them to the police station. He says no photos were taken, no medics were called, and that two hours after being found at the observatory after being on the run for 22 and a half hours, they were told by a sergeant that, “you guys shouldn’t have been on that road anyway. Tourists aren’t allowed there and they should have told your car rental agency that the road is closed.”

(CLUE: This is why the Miske Gang slogan is ‘Defend Hawaii’)

Alex Lucero says he has attempted to reach out to the MPD several times since the incident.

“Since Monday of this week (the week of June 23-30) I have been reaching out to the police department because I haven’t got an update,” Alex says. “I hadn’t found out if they recovered any of our items, or our rental car.”

“We’re getting a lot of response from some Maui natives saying that there’s no way that this possibly happened and discrediting the story,” Justina said….

‘Going back to the mainland broke and broken’

MN: … No one will be able to live in Hawaii except for the super-rich like Jeff Bezos, Oprah Winfrey and Mark Zuckerberg.

My dream is being stolen because of associations and their predatory fees. My rights as a home owner have been stripped, and because of the bylaws in the associations, I can’t even get a decent payment on my place.

(TRANSLATION: A system to make people lose money on Hawaii real estate has been devised.  This is how it works.)

Also, the non-profit that helped me with my dream has gone MIA on me until it’s time to collect their money too.

So, I completely wasted time and money here in Hawaii, and am going back to the mainland broke and broken. Just like how they send the homeless here broke with no resources.

No lawyers will touch this here in Hawaii where are my rights here as an American minority trying to achieve a little bit of paradise for the rest of my life- just to be dropped kicked back to the mainland with nothing not even enough money to pay for moving back.

Please, if anything can be done here get rid of dreaded, greedy and selfish associations that do nothing except steal hard-earned money for nothing. They have no place in Hawaii to be charging excessive fees with bully lawyers….

Sheriffs Subject of Three Separate Criminal Investigations over Harassment of Black Deputies

HNN: … Sources told HNN Investigates that Gary’s case involves accusations of him making derogatory comments about gay people toward a deputy sheriff, an inappropriate photo on a state computer, and an incident where he allegedly shoved the deputy.

Sources also told HNN that Keahi allegedly ordered the deputy to run into traffic without personal protective equipment, which includes a reflective vest, gloves and a whistle.

“Once there’s an incident like that, it should be reported and once it comes to us we turn around and order an investigation or direct an investigation,” said Jordan Lowe, Department of Law Enforcement director, who would not divulge specific details of the criminal probes.

“With the state, there’s zero tolerance in that type of conduct or behavior,” he added.

The two airport deputy sheriffs who were arrested have not been charged and are on leave with pay. The Department of Law Enforcement says they are innocent until proven guilty.

Meanwhile, Lowe says there are three separate criminal investigations involving nine sheriff’s deputies on paid administrative leave.

In a separate racial harassment case, two others — Sgt. Erich Mitamura and Alvin Turla — were arrested after allegedly targeting Black deputy sheriff Martin Horton. They worked at the state Capitol. Mitamura and Turla have not been charged.

“The career as a law enforcement that I thought I was going to have, that’s all in jeopardy because now I’m viewed as someone not trustworthy,” said Horton.

“I didn’t do anything wrong,” he added.

Horton graduated in December and HNN Investigates has learned there are multiple allegations where the recruits from that class may have been targeted….

HD2 Residency? Petitioners appeal decision regarding Lee Loy

HTH: … Petitioners who sought to disqualify Hawaii County Councilwoman Sue Lee Loy from running for the state House District 2 seat are appealing Hawaii Chief Election Officer Scott Nago’s decision that she is eligible to run.

The appeal was filed June 24 with the state Elections Office and the clerk of the House of Representatives.

The six petitioners, including three of Lee Loy’s sisters-in-law, contend Lee Loy — who is term-limited and can’t run again for the District 3 council seat — still lives at 498 Auwae Road in the Panaewa Hawaiian Homes and Farm Lots, which is in state House District 3.

State law requires a candidate’s main residence be within the district the candidate is seeking to represent….

VOICES: ‘Guest house’ bill could boost Kaua‘i housing supply

TGI: … Kaua‘i County lawmakers will soon have another chance to ease the island’s critical housing shortage when a bill comes before them that would allow existing Kaua‘i homeowners to build both accessory dwelling units and guest houses on their properties.

The Kaua‘i Planning Commission considered the bill on June 4, and expects to hear the bill again later this summer to make amendments. If all goes well, its members will recommend that it be approved by the Kaua‘i County Council.

Right now, Kaua‘i’s county code limits property owners to only one additional dwelling unit or one guest house per main dwelling on their properties, but not both….

City Employees Find Way to Keep ‘Working’ from Home—Complain About Indoor Air Quality

HNN: … An entire office at Honolulu Hale is now off limits while air quality tests are done — and until a new temporary space can be secured.

The city Office for Corporation Counsel is now locked with signs on the door directing people to call instead of visiting. On May 10, all 90 employees in the office were notified by email that they were to “collect everything they need to telework” until further notice.

It started when two new hires complained about allergy symptoms.

Appeals court grants injunction, pausing demolition of Haiku Stairs

HNN: … This means the city’s work to remove the stairway must stop at least until mid-September, when further arguments will be heard.

The ruling from the state’s Intermediate Court of Appeals said the city may remove about 60 stair modules from the Moanalua side of the trail and about 10 to 15 stair modules from the windward side.

These stairs were already detached by city contractors prior to the court’s ruling on June 20. In addition, the city must secure partially detached module to ensure safety. But otherwise, the city cannot touch the stairs pending the appeal….

Homeless Fight for Every 5th Stolen Shopping cart

CB: … On the other side of the Burger King, a homeless man was using shopping cart number 10. He kept a black luggage bag and pieces of cardboard in it.

Mkheidze walked up undaunted.

“Hello, I’m with Walmart. To pick up the Walmart shopping cart,” he said. The man nodded in affirmation, helped remove the items from the cart, and then thanked Mkheidze.

“Most cases are like that,” Mkheidze said — about 80%, according to his estimate. The other 20% of the time, he calls the police….
