SA: … Gov. Josh Green hopes that the number of people unaccounted for from the Lahaina fire— currently 388 — will fall below 50 names when a new list comes out on Friday.
So far the number of people who died in the country’s deadliest wildfire in over a century has plateaued this week at 115….
“The formal announcement will be tomorrow from the FBI and the group that’s working on this. … The number of people that actually filed missing reports was closing to 112 or 115 to the Maui authorities. And of those individuals, a substantial number — more than half — were immediately found either to be tragically lost to the fire or discovered, and some in the hospital. So I think we’re going to hear a number in the lower double digits tomorrow, hopefully under 50….

Former Mayor Defends Maui Emergency Management Director Who Resigned
KITV: … "We need to be able to take our time, let the research be done. Let the studies come out instead of throwing blame all over the place," Arakawa said. He soon named Andaya as a subject that he believes was unfairly targeted.
"He wasn't on Maui, he was in Honolulu attending a conference with FEMA. Well, part of the job when you're dealing with a major catastrophe that may happen is to get the instructions on how you're going to deal with it." Alan Arakawa said.
"And I will tell you how our administration worked. You will not find one incident where I blamed any of my departments or allow them to take the blame for any major challenge," he added.
"Herman is of the same mentality. He will never blame anybody within his department or within the administration. He'll take it on his own shoulders," Arakawa said of the former Emergency Management Director…

Red Hill Replacement Rush Job: Island Energy Services Completes Massive Fuel Storage Expansion
KITV … Construction of 5 new storage tanks are in the last stages of completion at the company's campus in Kapolei. The capital project that began in October will now allow Island Energy to house an additional 1.5 million barrels of fuel for the military - an increase around 25% of their current capacity.
“It typically takes about two years from initial design, construction getting it all commissioned,” said Jon Mauer, CEO of Island Energy Services. “We've been able to do that in 10 months. And it really speaks to our organization.”
“I think the critical lessons learned here are that you can build, of course, all the precautions were made in the way that these fuel tanks were designed and deployed so they're safe and secure,” said Mark Glick, Chief Energy Officer for the State of Hawaii. “So it's important that when we are challenged like this, that you're able to come back, increase capacity and to be able to do it safely and securely.”
Final testing will take place next month with the new storage set to be fully operational this Fall….

ILind: … A 20-year-old man who shot and killed two others in an exchange of gunfire in the parking lot of Haleiwa Joe’s Seafood Grill on Aug. 31, 2018, was an FBI confidential source in the investigation leading to the indictment of Honolulu businessman and alleged racketeering gang leader, Michael J. Miske Jr.
The victims, Victor “Dusky” Toledo, 37, and his nephew, Dustin Young Toledo, 26, were shot and killed just after closing time as late diners were still finishing their meals at the popular North Shore restaurant and bar.
The surviving gunman, who was also wounded in the confrontation, was later identified as Keoni Adric, a top-tier junior boxer who won several national titles before he was 18.
Adric’s cooperation with the FBI appears to have been a closely held secret until recently. It is publicly reported here for the first time.
The nature of the information Adric provided to the FBI is not publicly known, although it apparently involves at least Miske and his half-brother, John Stancil, one of five remaining co-defendants in the case.
No murder charges were filed in the case. Surveillance video captured enough of the incident for prosecutors to conclude the victims “were the likely first aggressors,” leading to a determination the shootings were justified as self-defense, court records show. The FBI apparently followed suit, determining the agency could continue to work with Adric despite his role in the two deaths.
However, the decision not to bring murder charges continues to anger friends of the victims, who don’t understand why Adric was allowed to “get away with it,” as one North Shore resident put it.
