DoE could impose accountability for failure: HSTA fighting to defend incompetence

Hawaii's public school teachers union is fighting a proposal to let Superintendent Pat Hamamoto replace staff at campuses that repeatedly flunk federal education goals, claiming it amounts to "hanging a sword over teachers' heads."

"It's not correct to assume that the academic outcome is the result of the school administration and faculty," HSTA President Roger Takabayashi wrote in testimony. "It is the background and needs, as well as the barriers to learning that the student brings," that determine whether a school succeeds, he added.

(In other words, the teachers have absolutely nothing to do with educational outcomes it is Hawaii students and parents who are the are failures.  Interesting fact that you won't learn in DoE schools: In the 1840s Hawaii was the most literate nation on Earth.  But we didn't have any HSTA back then.)

Legislature considers food stamps for the rich

The bill offered by Senate Democrats would remove the asset test and set the gross monthly limit at 185 percent of the federal poverty level. The bill would also let people apply for the program by fax.... Statewide, 54,669 households — covering 104,203 people — are enrolled.

(That way an asset millionaire with a low income, such as a retired hippie from the mainland, can get an EBT card just like the rest of the Democrat dependents....)

Lum, faced with calls for investigations of the allegations, named an independent “blue ribbon” panel and began a process of depoliticizing the courts and dismantling the empire built up by the popular court administrator, Tom “Fat Boy” Okuda.
