Democratic candidate for governor of Hawaii Neil Abercrombie told KITV-TV that Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann is personally calling business owners to warn them against contributing money to Abercrombie’s campaign.

Abercrombie says supporters have told him that they fear being adversely affected if they have permits or business proceedings pending before the city of Honolulu.

KHON: Governor Lingle Fires Back at “bully” Mayor Hannemann  (Jan 28, 2010)

"I am pro rail, I always have been, I just think right now we can't afford the plan that he's proposed," said Lingle. "I think Mufi Hannemann has had a pattern throughout his time in public life and that is when people don't agree with him he starts to attack them in a personal way, he tries to bully them into seeing it his way."

LINGLE: Honolulu Architects “have a lot to lose when it comes to future contracts with the City”
By Gov. Linda Lingle (Jan 18, 2010)

I want to thank the American Institute of Architects – Honolulu Chapter for being willing to share their information and point of view with the broader public. The members of the AIA are pro-transit. They are pro-development. They make their living off of development. But they have some concerns about the project as it’s proposed and they wanted to present them to me and now, to the public. They have nothing to gain personally by making this presentation and I believe they have a lot to lose when it comes to future contracts with the City. I admire them for being willing to step forward in this fashion.

Honolulu rail-transit schedule slips again: City doesn't expect groundbreaking until late this year

City Councilman Charles Djou, an outspoken opponent of the rail plan, said that the delay in breaking ground is a result of complications arising from Hannemann's "my way or the railway" approach to pushing the project.

"After the vote in 2008, what he should have done was build consensus in the community and reach out to opponents," Djou said. "He continued to refuse to hold public hearings, and as a consequence there is a lack of public confidence. These are self-inflicted wounds.

"This is bad for everyone. His bullheaded style is unhealthy. Even though I opposed rail, the voters voted to do it. So if we're going to do it, let's do it right and not waste the taxpayers' money."

Yoshioka: Using old OR&L path for rail not practical

Perhaps Mr. Dudley should ask the residents living in the Ewa Plain what they think about his proposal, since it would put a major construction project on their doorstep. It would displace dozens of families and businesses in that area to construct stations, park-and-ride lots, and other facilities needed for the project.

(Geee. Maybe Yoshioka should've asked everybody else these same questions….)
