Chairman Ka‘auwai’s Remarks at the 7/14/09 Tax Rally - Honolulu

To the good and honest people of Hawai’i – ALOHA!!!

My name is Jonah Ka‘auwai and I am the Chairman of the Hawai’i Republican Party.

People of Hawai’i, I am standing here with you because I am sick and tired of the strangle hold that the arrogant and greedy union bosses and there puppet legislature have on Hawai’i.

Our Senate President Colleen Hanabusa has said that you are used to paying higher taxes.  Which tells me that Senator Hanabusa and her tax and spend friends in the legislature will continue to stick us with the bill unless we get them out of office.

We, the principled, honest and hardworking people of Hawai’i have allowed selfish corruption, personal gain, and special interests to determine the future of our children. As the Republican Party Chair, I am telling you -- NO MORE, NO WAY, and, NOT ON MY WATCH!!!

The generous union bosses have from the bottom of their hearts, offered a 5% union member pay cut. Wow thanks guys! By the way where are you going to get the other $500 Million? From your six figure salary? I don’t think so.

I’ll tell you where they are going to get it. The union bosses are going to strangle negotiations, drive up the debt, and pull the strings of their puppet legislators and you are going to pay for the tax increases.

Either tomorrow in a special session or in the next legislative session, we will see which obedient legislators are going to have their campaigns paid for by the union bosses.

We need to tell the greedy union bosses and their puppet legislature, stay out of our pockets. We have had it!! –NO MORE TAXES

For those of us who believe that taxes and fees are volunteered and not to be abused, we say to the union bosses and their legislature – NO MORE TAXES

To struggling small business men and women, we support you in saying to the union bosses and their legislature – NO MORE TAXES

For the public unions’ rank and file members who have been manipulated for the benefit of their bosses, we support you in telling your union bosses and their legislature – NO MORE TAXES

On behalf of the 50,000 private sector workers who are unemployed, we say to the union bosses and their legislature – NO MORE TAXES

On behalf of the struggling families who are just trying to survive, we say to the union bosses and their legislature – NO MORE TAXES

My fellow citizens, we can rally and protest all we want, but if we don’t work together to end single-party domination, nothing will change. Come join us and get involved!
