HONOLULU – Kerry Gershaneck, former Congressional and Public Affairs Officer for Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard (PHNSY), endorsed Governor Linda Lingle for U.S. Senate in the following video announcement; click to LINK to watch:
In his endorsement, Mr. Gershaneck made the following points:
-During the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) hearings, Governor Lingle worked collaboratively with Senator Inouye and other members of Hawaii’s Congressional delegation to save PHNSY from closure. She worked with BRAC Chairman Anthony J. Principi and sent him the official Hawaii advocacy letter to keep the PHNSY open. -Governor Lingle also worked with the Hawaii Congressional delegation, as well as other members of Congress, and officials in Washington, D.C. on a bipartisan basis.
-Governor Lingle supported the development of an the engineer workforce that PHNSY will need for the future, through her STEM-focused education initiative and support for the hands-on robotics education programs.
-Governor Lingle effectively managed disaster and emergency response efforts during her eight years as the state's Commander in Chief, and was readily accessible to the PHNSY and Hawaii's defense community.
