Annual State-Local Tax Burden Ranking (2010) - New York Citizens Pay the Most, Alaska the Least

Residents of some states saw increases in their state-local burden. The largest increases were in Alaska, Colorado, and Hawaii. Resident tax burdens in these states rose by 0.5, 0.4, and 0.3 percent, respectively. For Alaska, this did not result in any change in ranking. Colorado’s ranking worsened, rising from 39th to 32nd. SA: State and local taxes paid by Hawaii residents totaled $4,396 per capita in fiscal 2010, including $3,367 paid within the state and $1,029 paid outside the state. Taxes paid outside the state include property taxes on second homes and hotel room taxes paid while on vacation.
The tax rate was calculated as a percentage of Hawaii’s per capita income, which was $43,509 in fiscal 2010.
