by Andrew Walden

Mark Kaniela Ing is running for State House District 11 South Maui.

In his campaign he touts his role as President of the Associated Students of the University of Hawaii.  But he didn’t mention that he falsely represented a budget resolution as having the support of the full University of Hawaii Student Coalition.

It took three months for UHSC to stop Ing from misrepresenting himself but after Ing was threatened with expulsion from UH, he capitulated.

This is Ing's final warning.

Mark Ing, President

Associated Students of the University of Hawaii

Dear Mark,

This is final notification that the University of Hawaii Student Caucus (UHSC) Executive Committee has yet to receive a letter of retraction from you regarding the UHSC Budget Resolution draft you sent out in preparation for the student rally you organized in December. Once again, the draft of the resolution that you sent out, which was not approved, was received by state legislators, University of Hawaii (UH) faculty and administration, and the Star Bulletin. During the January UHSC meeting you agreed to draft and send a retraction letter within two weeks time. You have failed to provide the letter within the agreed time, or respond to respond to attempts by the Executive Committee to contact you regarding this issue.

Be informed that the Executive Committee has agreed to allow you till March 25, 2010 to send a letter of retraction to the state legislators, UH faculty and administration, Star Bulletin, and the UHSC. If you fail to meet this requirement, the UHSC Executive Committee will notify Office of Student Affairs and recommend an investigation into your activities as a violation of the Student Conduct Code. Be advised, an investigation may result in a severe academic consequences that may include expulsion, suspension, probation, or warning.

This is a very serious matter, and considering numerous attempts to resolve this issue over the course of three months, the UHSC feels there is no other course of action available. We hope you will comply with our requirement and that we will not have to recommend a formal investigation into the matter. We further hope to move onto regular business activities and continue a productive and cooperative relationship among UHSC representatives at our March meeting.

This correspondence will be sent to your University of Hawaii email address and mailed to the ASUH office. You may email or telephone a response to this correspondence to Chairperson Ho‘omano Pakele or Vice Chairperson Matthew Williams, or via mail to the Office of Student Affairs attention Karen Lee.

Sincerely,

The University of Hawaii Executive Committee

Ho‘omano Pakele  UHSC Chairperson

Matthew Williams UHSC Vice Chair
