Aiona Disappointed in PRP's Attempt to Buy City Council Election
News Release from www.SamAiona.com
Former State Representative and City Council District 6 candidate Sam Aiona reacted to the large amount of money the Pacific Resources Partnership is spending on the City Council Special Election.
Aiona said, "After spending over $2 million trying to buy the election for Mayor it looks like PRP is trying to do the same in this race for City Council. Over the last 10 days residents have reported receiving 4 or 5 large mailers from PRP supporting Carol Fukunaga, which potentially cost over $60,000 to print and mail. It really saddens me to see the amount of money they are spending to buy this election when so many of my friends and family in the carpenters union are on the bench. Instead of buying elections and politicians they could be helping their members through these tough economic times."
Aiona continued, "The residents of Council District 6 deserve a Councilmember who will be independent and accountable to only them. I am not supported by any special interest, union or big money groups. Being a voter I would be very weary of voting for a candidate whose campaign is almost fully funded by special interest money. It will be very difficult for Carol Fukunaga not to be a rubber stamp for their agenda. Our campaign has been funded by regular people from our community and I am honored to have their support."
Internal polling has shown significant moment in this race with Aiona pulling within the margin of error to even with Carol Fukunaga. PRP's interest in this race further illustrates that Carol Fukunaga is struggling to hold on to the lead she started with.
Aiona will be available for comment from 4-6pm today while sign waving at the corner of Queen Emma and School St.
