SENATOR DAN INOUYE ENDORSES CALDWELL FOR MAYOR
News Release from Caldwell Campaign
(Honolulu, HI) – Senator Daniel K. Inouye has endorsed Kirk Caldwell for Mayor of the City & County of Honolulu. According to Senator Inouye, “I first met Kirk when he worked for me in Washington in the 1970’s. His dedication and thoughtful approach ensuring that our islands become a better place to live, work, and play has always impressed me. You can trust Kirk to fight for our best interests at heart and focus on the future. He is honest, smart, and trusted, and that will never change. I am urging everyone to support and vote for Kirk Caldwell in the general election.”
Senator Inouye went on say, “I have always been a supporter of rail because it will provide much needed relief for West Oahu and offers new real transit solutions to our growing communities. Ben Cayetano’s plan for more buses is not the way to the future and will only create additional congestion to Oahu’s traffic problems. In addition, his estimated financial plan is purely speculative and the $1.55 billion that has already been designated for the rail project is not transferable, period. If he succeeds in his campaign to stop rail now, Hawaii will not receive this financial opportunity from the federal government again. Our time is now. Let’s not throw away the critical $1.55 billion investment that Hawaii’s economy needs.”
Caldwell said, “I am grateful for Senator Inouye’s support and endorsement. He is a man of vision, believing in our future, and has given everything for our state, delivering jobs and investments which benefit us all. This election is about vision and hope. Honolulu isn’t just about roads and sewers, it is about people. Improving the daily life of everyone is my vision and hope. Join with Senator Dan Inouye and me, and let’s make Honolulu a better place for all of us.”
