Applause rang out for attorney James Hochberg and plaintiff Allen Cardines of Hawaii Family Forum as 250 rallying at New Hope Church in Waipahu celebrated today’s court decision upholding traditional marriage and rejecting efforts by Governor Abercrombie and gay activists to impose gay marriage as a mandate required by the US Constitution.
Opening the meeting, nationally known historian David Barton pointed out that the original “wall of separation” between church and state existed to protect the church against government mandates not to eliminate all public expressions of faith by private citizens.
Hochberg told the audience that he expects Abercrombie and the plaintiffs to appeal but said he and the attorneys of Alliance for Defense of Freedom are prepared to defend traditional marriage all the way to the US Supreme Court.
Similar meetings are planned for Kahului, Maui tomorrow and for Salt Lake and Sand Island, Oahu on Friday.
