HONOLULU - Governor Linda Lingle was joined tonight by over 1,000 supporters at a birthday celebration in her honor at the Hilton Hawaiian Village's Coral Ballrooms. The Oahu "Birthday Bash" was the grand finale of a series of five celebrations held around the state, attracting more than 2,000 supporters statewide. Governor Lingle addressed the crowd, thanking them for their support, and recognizing the momentum building for her campaign for Hawaii's open U.S. Senate seat.
"This election is about us, our future, and what kind of Hawaii we're going to be going forward. It is also about whether or not the person that gets elected will stand in front of the public and make the tough decisions our country needs during these challenging economic times," said Governor Lingle.
"These decisions are hard because they impact real people; but the people of Hawaii expect their elected leaders to make the tough decisions because the easy ones were already made, and are what got us here."
She was welcomed by many familiar faces, including Richel Cole, a graduate of the Hawaii robotics program which Governor Lingle implemented in our state to enrich STEM education for all keiki.
"When I vote for the first time this fall, I'm voting for the woman who changed my life so she can continue to change the lives of all those that come after me" said Richel Cole, who had the honor of introducing Governor Lingle to the crowd.
