Democrats Quit Selling 'Rally Time', Allow Case to Speak
By Ed Case @ 9:11 PM :: 4262 Views :: Energy, Environment

Media Alert from Ed Case for Senate Campaign

Who: Ed Case, U.S. Senate Candidate and former Congressman (D-HI 2002-07)

What: Congressman Ed Case will address the 2012 Hawaii State Democratic Party Convention Saturday afternoon.

The Hawaii Democratic Party had initially invited Case and his Democratic Primary opponent, Congresswoman Mazie Hirono, to debate at the convention Saturday evening. Congresswoman Hirono refused the invitation, instead choosing to purchase "rally time" for $500/minute on Sunday. The Party rescinded its paid rally time policy today, offering Case an opportunity to address the Convention on Saturday afternoon.

When: Tomorrow, Saturday, May 26 1pm

Where:

  • Hawaii Democratic Party State Convention
  • Sheraton Waikiki
  • 2255 Kalakaua Avenue

Case will also be available at the following:

  • Candidate Meet and Greet Saturday, 5-6:30pm Coconut Grove
  • Case for Senate Hospitality Suite Saturday, following Congressional District 2 candidate debate approximately 8:30pm Sheraton Waikiki, Room 2951

Campaign materials will be available at the Case for Senate table throughout the convention. Case will also be generally available at the convention.

Statement from Democratic Party Chair Dante Carpenter:

There will be no paid rally time at the Democratic Party of Hawai`i State Convention this year. We will offer our two excellent U.S. Senate candidates time to give speeches with no cost involved.

Ed Case and Mazie Hirono will each have five minutes to address the convention, Ed on Saturday at 1:00 pm and Mazie on Sunday at 11:10 am. Our delegates expect to hear from both of them and so that’s how we will go forward.

The original concept was to raise needed funds to help cover the cost of the State Convention. Important as that may be, it pales in comparison to giving these great candidates a chance to address our delegates.

We thank Mazie Hirono’s campaign for their willingness to help with the rally time effort, but we will not ask them to contribute anything for time on Sunday.
