Rep Joe Bertram’s 30-year friend Mark Marcantonio isn’t the only convicted child molester helped out by the Maui Democrat. The Legislative staff directory for 2007 shows that Bertram hired convicted child molester Leon Rouse as a Legislative Aide for the 2007 Legislative session.
In the last five sessions, Rouse has been hired twice by Rep Rida Cabanilla (D-Ewa) and once each by Senator Roz Baker (D-Lahaina, Kihei) and Rep Joe Bertram (D-Kihei). Numerous other Democrat Legislators have spoke up on behalf of Rouse and signed letters defending him in two separate sex-related cases.
Democrat House Speaker Calvin Say has finally responded to the growing nest of child molesters and Democrat legislators tied to them. Say parroted Bertram’s defense arguing his courtroom appearance on behalf of the molester was “in his personal capacity."
In the April 21 letter to Hawaii GOP chair Willes Lee, Say complained about receiving “over 100 calls” in one hour and whined that the callers are “obstructing the operations of the House Speakers’ office.”
In response, Lee pointed out “that the Democrat one-party rule in the legislature has led to such arrogance that concerned citizens contacting their elected officials is now seen as a ‘disruption.’”
