STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR LINDA LINGLE ON ARMED FORCES DAY

News Release from www.Lingle2012.com

HONOLULU - Governor Linda Lingle, candidate for Hawaii's open U.S. Senate seat, released the following statement today recognizing Armed Forces Day.

"Today, we honor and give thanks to our veterans and members of America's Armed Forces, who have sacrificed so much, and asked so little, for our country. Throughout history, America's men and women in uniform have been at the forefront of spreading democracy and protecting those in need around the world," said Gov. Lingle. "On this day, we extend our sincere gratitude for their selfless dedication.

"As military service men and women are deployed around the world, we also recognize the tremendous sacrifices their own families have made while they are away. We also honor the millions of veterans who fought to protect the rights we all cherish," added Gov. Lingle.

"We also recognize those who have given the ultimate sacrifice, and lost their lives for our great country. We will be forever indebted to them for their service, and I encourage all the people of Hawaii to honor the members of our military 'ohana today and all days."

Armed Forces Day was declared by Presidential Proclamation in 1950 under the direction of President Harry Truman, praising the work of the military at home and across the seas. Armed Forces Day is recognized annually on the third Saturday of May.
