Selection Committee Proposes Kailua Site for New Oahu Landfill
By Tom Berg @ 9:36 PM :: 7592 Views :: Maui County, Education K-12

NEW LANDFILL WILL NOT BE AT WAIMANALO GULCH PER DIRECTION OF THE BLUE RIBBON LANDFILL SITE SELECTION COMMITTEE

by Councilmember Tom Berg

The deck of cards was shuffled, the hand was dealt, and the winning hand, or community that should be getting the next municipal landfill, per the advisory committee, is, KAILUA! The Ameron Quarry in Kailua was chosen as the best site to house the next landfill. The next step is for the Mayor to agree . . . for he does have the power to not agree and pick another site. Here is a short youtube clip I made of the unveiling this morning:

Editor's Note: Sen. Pohai Ryan and Pete Carlisle will team up to 'save Kailua.'  Both will pick up votes in the August 11 primary election as they pretend to fight to keep the landfill out.  In the end the landfill will be steered into 15 more years at the inevitable Waimanalo Gulch--which has been the plan all along.
