“BIPARTISANSHIP IS LEADERSHIP”
U.S. Sen. Susan Collins’ Message At Luncheon Honoring Former-Gov. Linda Lingle
HONOLULU – A crowd of over 300 gathered today at the Sheraton Waikiki to honor Hawaii’s former two-term Governor Linda Lingle and hear from keynote speaker U.S. Sen. Susan Collins. The three-term Senator spoke on her bipartisan leadership in the U.S. Senate, as well as the need to elect leaders who share this commitment.
“Linda's achievements demonstrate exactly the kind of leadership we need in Washington right now,” said Sen. Collins. “We need to elect more centrists to the Senate, moderates willing to put politics aside and deal with the extraordinary issues facing our country.”
In attendance was a cross-section of the local community, ranging from military personnel, local business owners, trade and civic groups leaders, and high school students, including several from Sacred Hearts Academy where Gov. Lingle is an honorary alumna.
Gov. Lingle emphasized what a great honor it was to host Sen. Collins, who shares many of her leadership priorities, including a commitment to working across the political party aisle to develop and implement common-sense legislative solutions.
"Sen. Collins leads by example with her commitment to bipartisanship. It’s a testament to the strength of her leadership that she has built a record of success in bridging the ideological divide to ensure the people of her state and our nation remain the top priority,” said Gov. Lingle. “If elected to represent Hawaii’s people as their next U.S. Senator, you have my commitment that I will work with Sen. Collins and members of both parties and put Hawaii’s ‘people first.’”
