U.S. SENATOR SUSAN COLLINS VISITS HAWAII

News Release from www.Lingle2012.com

HONOLULU - Former Governor Linda Lingle, candidate for Hawaii's open U.S. Senate seat, will host U.S. Senator Susan Collins at a special luncheon at the Sheraton Waikiki on Wednesday, April 11 from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m.

"Senator Collins has been a clear voice of reason in Washington, D.C. since she began serving the people of Maine over 30 years ago. Her common-sense views on major issues are not trumped by blind party loyalty, which is highlighted by her leadership on several key committees that influence the public safety and financial direction of our country," said Gov. Lingle. "Sen. Collins and I share interests beyond government oversight, including taking the time to read to children. I am impressed that she has visited over 100 schools in Maine, and these visits were among the most rewarding experiences in her career in public service," Gov. Lingle added.

Senator Susan M. Collins is Maine's three-term Senator, and a strong bipartisan leader in the U.S. Senate. Maine voters first elected Susan Collins to represent them in the United States Senate in 1996. She was re-elected in 2002 and 2008. She has earned a national reputation as a thoughtful, effective legislator, who works across party lines to seek consensus on our nation's most important issues. Sen. Collins is the 15th woman in history to be elected to the U.S. Senate.

Senator Collins is a ranking member and former Chair of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which has jurisdiction over the Department of Homeland Security and is the Senate's chief oversight committee. She also serves on the Appropriations Committee, Armed Services Committee, and is a member of the Special Committee on Aging. Previously, she served for six years on the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. Senator Collins was also the first freshman Senator ever to lead the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.
