By Councilmember Kymberly Marcos Pine @ 10:57 PM :: 6990 Views :: Energy, Environment

Hearing Tomorrow, Jan. 26: Help Law Enforcement Investigate Cybercrime

Aloha,

As you know, I have been fighting for victims of cybercrime in Hawaii. A key part of our cybercrime package this year is HB 2288, a bill to help law enforcement gather evidence to prosecute cybercriminals by requiring internet service providers to keep consumer records for a longer period of time. Currently, some information is saved for less than seven days which does not allow law enforcement to gather evidence to investigate or prosecute. A copy of the bill can be found here.

HB 2288 will be heard tomorrow morning in the Committee on Economic Revitalization and Business. If you are able, please testify in person or send written testimony in support of this important measure. Details on how to testify are below.

  • HB 2288 Relating to Recordkeeping
  • Date: Thursday, January 26, 2012Time: 8:30 a.m.
  • Place: Conference Room 312, State Capitol, 415 South Beretania Street

Persons wishing to offer comments should submit testimony with a transmittal cover indicating:

  • ·Testifier's name with position/title and organization;
  • ·The Committee the comments are directed to;
  • ·The date and time of the hearing;
  • ·Measure number; and
  • ·The number of copies the Committee is requesting.

While every effort will be made to copy, organize, and collate all testimony received, materials received on the day of the hearing or improperly identified or directed to the incorrect office, may be distributed to the Committee after the hearing.

Submit testimony in ONE of the following ways:

  • PAPER: 3 copies (including an original) to Room 404 in the State Capitol; please submit testimony by 3:00 pm prior to the hearing date;
  • FAX: For comments less than 5 pages in length, transmit to 586-8479 (for Oahu) or 1-800-535-3859 (for Neighbor Islanders without a computer to submit testimony through e-mail or the Web);
  • EMAIL: For comments less than 5 pages in length, transmit to ERBtestimony@Capitol.hawaii.gov ; or
  • WEB: For comments less than 4MB in size, transmit from the Web page at http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/submittestimony.aspx.

Testimony submitted will be placed on the Legislative Web site after the hearing adjourns. This public posting of testimony on the Web site should be considered when including personal information in your testimony.

Late Testimony:

Testimony received after 6:30 am the day of hearing will be seen as late.

If submitting late testimony, please bring 20 copies to the hearing (if joint committee then multiply by # of committees).

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids and/or services to participate in the House public hearing process (i.e., sign or foreign language interpreter or wheelchair accessibility), please contact the Committee Clerk at 586-6498 or email your request for an interpreter to HouseInterpreter@Capitol.hawaii.gov atleast 24 hours prior to the hearing for arrangements. Prompt requests submitted help to ensure the availability of qualified individuals and appropriate accommodations.

Selected meetings are broadcast live. Check the current legislative broadcast schedule on the "Capitol TV" Web site at www.capitoltv.org OR call 536-2100.

As always, please contact my office with questions or concerns at 586-9730 or email me at reppine@capitol.hawaii.gov.
