Case Hopes to Use Congress Merely as Stepping Stone

Washington – Ed Case’s inflated ego and unabashed ambition to climb the political ladder is once again rearing its ugly head. The former Member of Congress from Hawai’i’s Second Congressional District has announced that he will seek the First Congressional District seat in 2010. Case, who has run for state House, Governor, U.S. Congress in the Second District as well as the U.S. Senate, now has his eye on the First as his next stepping stone to higher office.

“Ed Case doesn’t seem to understand that running for office is not something you haphazardly choose in order to add another notch to your political belt,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain.

“Luckily for Hawaii, Charles Djou is a remarkable candidate who recognizes the immense responsibility and commitment required to be a resounding voice for his constituents in Washington.”
As can be seen, Ed Case has no problem running for any office that is available to him, first running for Governor after serving in the Hawai’i State Legislature:

“State Rep. Ed Case (D, Manoa), with his wife, Audrey, by his side, arrived outside the lieutenant governor's office yesterday to file nomination papers as a candidate for governor. (Honolulu Star-Bulletin, May 21, 2002)

Less than a month after his defeat for the Democratic nomination for Governor, he announced his candidacy for Congress:

“With volunteers hastily tearing down the "for governor" part of campaign signs in front of his Kapiolani Boulevard headquarters, Democrat Ed Case announced yesterday he is running in a special election to fill the unfinished term left vacant by the death of U.S. Rep. Patsy Mink.” (Honolulu Advertiser, October 2, 2002)

And then in 2006, Case ran an ill-advised primary to Senator Dan Akaka, losing in the Democratic primary to the state’s junior Senator:

“Case's primary against Akaka upset many traditional Democrats, and the fractures within the party have not entirely healed…
“Case, an attorney who lives in Kane'ohe with his wife, Audrey, said he would evaluate a future campaign for Senate depending on the circumstances of when a vacancy occurs.” (Honolulu Advertiser, 03/29/2009)

And most recently, before announcing his intention to run for Hawai’i’s First District, he wasn’t sure whether to run for Congress or Governor:

“Ed Case, a former Hawaii congressman and legislator, is asking supporters to tell him whether he should run for governor or the U.S. Congress in 2010. (Pacific Business News, 12/03/2008)

Case has finally made up his mind, but is he just toying with Hawai’i’s residents for his own political ambitions?
