JUDICIAL SELECTION COMMISSION PRESS RELEASE
DISTRICT JUDGE, SECOND CIRCUIT COURT NOMINEES
News Release from JSC 11-23-11 (Editor’s Note: This is the first release of JSC nominees since the JSC’s Nov 16 decision to begin releasing the names of judicial nominees.)
Under the Constitution of the State of Hawaiʻi, Article VI, Section 3: “The Chief Justice, with the consent of the Senate, shall fill a vacancy in the district courts by appointing a person from a list of not less than six nominees for the vacancy presented by the Judicial Selection Commission.”
The Judicial Selection Commission is pleased to announce the list of nominees for the District Court Judge of the Second Circuit, State of Hawaiʻi (Maui, Molokaʻi , and Lanaʻi). That office has been vacant since the elevation of former District Court Judge Rhonda Lai Loo to the position of Circuit Court Judge of the Second Circuit.
The list of nominees selected by the Commission to fill the District Court vacancy is as follows, in alphabetical order:
- Mimi DesJardins
- Michelle L. Drewyer
- Adrianne H. Heely
- Adriel S.C. Menor
- Richard A. Priest, Jr.
- Douglas J. Sameshima
Chief Justice Recktenwald has 30 days from his receipt of the list to make his appointment.

Chief Justice Seeks Public Comment on Judicial Nominees
News Release from Hawaii Judiciary
Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald announced today that he is seeking written comment on judicial nominees for one vacancy at the District Court of the Second Circuit (county of Maui), that occurred upon the appointment of the Honorable Rhonda I.L. Loo to the Circuit Court of the Second Circuit on June 9, 2011.
The names submitted for this vacancy by the Judicial Selection Commission, in alphabetical order, are:
- Mimi DesJardins
- Michelle L. Drewyer
- Adrianne H. Heely
- Adriel C.S. Menor
- Richard A. Priest, Jr.
- Douglas J. Sameshima
Since the Chief Justice has the discretion to assign judges to the district or district family court calendar, comments about the qualifications and character of any of the nominees with regard to either calendar assignment may be sent, in writing, to:
