News Release from US Senate Committee on Indian Affairs

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka (D-Hawaii), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, will hold a legislative hearing on three bills pending before the Committee this Thursday, November 10 at 2:15 p.m., in room 628 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

The purpose of this legislative hearing is to consider the following bills and determine the next step in the legislative process:

• S. 1763, Stand Against Violence and Empower Native Women Act; (NOTE: This Bill would give Tribes the right to arrest non-tribal members.)
• S. 872, A bill to amend the Omnibus Indian Advancement Act to modify the date as of which certain tribal land of the Lytton Rancheria of California is considered to be held in trust and to provide for the conduct of certain activities on the land; and
• S. 1192, Alaska Safe Families and Villages Act of 2001.
