A newly released report by the national transportation research group “TRIP” highlights 2010 and 2008 figures which show Hawaii’s rural roads and bridges to be among the worst in the nation.
In “Rural Connections: Challenges and Opportunities in America’s Heartland,” TRIP examines the condition of roads and bridges in Hawaii outside Oahu and compares the result to other US rural areas.
The results show:
- 16% of Hawaii’s Rural bridges are structurally deficient –10th in nation
- 29% of Hawaii’s rural roads rated poor—5th in nation
