The national Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) launched an August 2 broadside against former Governor Linda Lingle as she prepares for a widely anticipated US Senate run.
They missed.
Widely panned by local political commentators, the DSCC screed bizarrely tagged Lingle as a “hyper partisan…Republican bomb thrower.”
But there is a ticking time-bomb buried at the bottom of their rambling diatribe. The DSCC’s “indictment” cites:
Gary Hooser of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin (who) noted that “Lingle once called President Bush ‘the best president ever.’” [Gary Hooser, Honolulu Star-Bulletin, 9/7/08]
Gary Hooser wasn’t with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, he was the Senate Democrats’ Majority Leader—and was identified as such in the cited September 7, 2008 opinion column. But that’s the least of the DSCC’s Hooser problems.
In August 2007, Hooser backed the gangs of unruly protesters who vandalized Superferry passenger vehicles and obstructed Nawiliwili Harbor in an effort to keep Oahu residents out. Hooser told the Kauai Garden Isle August 25, 2007:
“I’m appalled at the arrogance of Hawai`i Superferry and the Department of Transportation.… If it weren’t for (the protesters) involvement, there would perhaps be no Supreme Court decision (blocking the Superferry from Kauai)….”
Thanks to the criminal antics and legal shenanigans of his ilk, the Superferry was driven out of Hawaii and forced into bankruptcy, leaving taxpayers on the hook for the $140M in loan guarantees which underwrote ship construction. The Hawaii Superferries now languish in Norfolk, Virginia awaiting a buyer.
Not only does Hooser cost taxpayers millions, but he didn’t pay his own taxes for years. A chapter of the book KPD Blue, ironically posted on an anti-Superferry website, describes tax cheating discovered during Hooser’s successful 2004 Senate run:
“It was revealed during the campaign that Hooser had neglected to pay state withholding and excise taxes he collected from his employees at his magazine publishing company over an 11 year period….Eventually, the state forced Hooser to repay the $89,875 in taxes but in a deal Hooser cut with the tax collectors, they dropped any penalty or interest, which totaled another $50,440.”
Amazingly Hooser, in his failed 2008 Lt. Governor campaign announcement, claimed to have “…a strong businesses background.”
And when he announced that candidacy, Hooser's campaign website listed 25 websites described as “Senator Gary Hooser’s Regular Reading Regime.” Among them was the anti-Semitic, Holocaust denier, 9-11 truther website www.WhatReallyHappened.com (WRH).
At WRH “Regular Readers” like Hooser may peruse an article from a Holocaust denier publication asserting: “(only) two to three hundred thousand Jews perished in Nazi concentration camps, but none in gas chambers.” Another WRH article touts a 1928 communist scheme to send Russian Jews to Siberia. There are literally hundreds of such articles interspersed between a selection of articles about Jewish child molesters and swindlers.
For Hooser and other “Regular Readers” who may be unfamiliar with “What Really Happened” on 9-11, the website has: “9-11: An inside job?” Another article asks: “9/11: WHAT DID THE GOVERNMENT KNOW AND WHEN DID IT KNOW IT?” -- and then in response explains:
The task was simple, deny the evidence, cover-up the embarrassing arrest of two Israelis with an explosives-tainted truck, and give the media a reason to return to the mantra of "all terror is caused by Muslims". But what started as a simple attempt to spin the news away from the Israelis arrested in Washington State has backfired on the Bush administration in a big way. In conducting the classic "limited hangout" of admitting to foreknowledge of the attacks of 9-11 in order to reassert the link to Osama bin Laden, Bush has handed opponents of his administration and opponents of World War the most damning proof yet that the reality of 9-11 is not what the US Government and media have been telling the American people it is.
The arrested Israelis posed a problem. History records in the Lavon Affair that Israelis willingly use bombs and lay false trails to Arabs for political gain. And it wasn't too long ago that JDL Chairman Irv Rubin was arrested for plotting to blow up a US Congressman who refused to toe the Israel party line. Then there were the two Mossad agents arrested inside the Mexican Congress with guns and explosives shortly after 9-11. As the battered World Trade Towers collapsed, the very first suspects arrested, caught cheering as the towers fell, were Israelis, later identified as Mossad agents. The arrested spies worked for Urban Moving Systems, whose Israeli owner promptly fled the nation.
This kind of hate speech is nothing new for Hawaii Democrats. During Lingle’s unsuccessful 1998 run for Hawaii Governor, Democrats whispered that the Jewish Lingle would cancel the Christmas holiday for government employees.
Is DSCC going to take this poisonous rhetoric national?
