SHOWDOWN ON LANDFILL AND WAIANAE SUSTAINABILITY COMMUNITIES PLAN
Aloha,
The City and County of Honolulu's Department of Planning and Permitting is accepting comments regarding a proposal to EXTEND the life of the Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill BY FIFTEEN MORE YEARS. You can send in your comments on the landfill ordeal by email to: infodpp@honolulu.gov.
I have requested the deadline period for submitting comments be extended from August 13, to September 30 of this year (see letter). At this time, I do not know if the comment period will be extended so please consider taking action prior to the 13th of this month. See my letter.
WAIANAE SUSTAINABILITY COMMUNITIES PLAN (WSCP)
The WSCP is to be heard by the City Council on August 17- for First Reading, meaning no decisions will be made on the substance of the plan but rather the process to finalize it will have commenced. After the 17th, the council's Planning and Zoning Committee will conduct a public hearing in Nanakuli. I will send out another email blast as soon as a date for that meeting in Nanakuli has been set. After that, the WSCP will go back to the City Council for Second Reading. I am requesting the Planning and Zoning Committee meet in Waianae as well during this hearing process.
TOWN HALL MEETINGS
- August 27 at Ewa Beach Park from noon to 3pm
- August 31 from 7-9pm at Kapolei Hale.
See details and topics for discussion in August Town Hall Flyer
FLOODING FROM HONOULIULI TO MAKAHA
Government has been kicking the can for decades when it comes to mitigating our drainage/flooding problems from stream to stream. I have introduced a resolution- 11-203 (see PROPOSED CD1) to bring resolve specific to the leeward coast. If you have a stream causing problems to your property, please send that information to me as soon as possible.
MAHALO.
