Hawaii: Red Flag Legislation Scheduled in Committee Tomorrow and Friday!

from NRA-ILA, Tuesday, March 17, 2026

Tomorrow at 2:00 PM, the House Committee on Judiciary and Hawaiian Affairs will hear Senate Bill 2517, a troubling expansion of Hawaii's red flag laws. Additionally, on Friday, March 20 at 3:15 PM, the Senate Committee on Public Safety and Military Affairs will hear House Bill 2062, which appropriates taxpayer dollars to encourage red flag law use.

Please consider submitting testimony OPPOSING SB 2517 and HB 2062 through the Hawaii Legislative website. For help creating an account and submitting testimony, click here.

Senate Bill 2517 would negatively affect Hawaii's already unconstitutional red flag laws, raising serious due process concerns by imposing automatic felony penalties without full evidentiary hearings for "Gun Violence Protection Orders."

House Bill 2062 directs taxpayer dollars toward "public awareness campaigns" promoting Hawaii's red flag laws while also appropriating funds to the judiciary for the "efficient processing" of anticipated increased GVRO caseloads. The use of public funds to promote an unconstitutional system that allows individuals to be stripped of a constitutional right before a full evidentiary hearing raises serious concerns.

Again, please consider submitting testimony in OPPOSITION to both SB 2517 and HB 2062.

Please stay tuned to your inbox and www.nraila.org for further updates.
