MORE FUNDING RELEASED TO IMPROVE SCHOOL FACILITIES

News Release from www.Hawaii.gov/gov

Honolulu – Governor Neil Abercrombie has released funds for more projects that will improve safety and create better learning environments at nine public schools on O'ahu and Maui. The capital improvement projects are part of the Governor’s New Day Work Projects, designed to create jobs and get money flowing through our economy.

  • $7,750,000 for construction of a multipurpose educational facility to support science curriculum at Stevenson Middle School.
  • $2,500,000 for construction of covered play courts at Mililani Middle School. Existing play courts are uncovered.
  • $575,000 for roof improvements to the cafeteria building at Fern Elementary School due to water damage.
  • $600,000 for renovation of buildings and structural improvements at Waihe'e Elementary School.
  • $36,000 for improvements of reconfiguration to the cafeteria stage at Mililani Uka Elementary School.
  • $500,000 for improvements to Noelani Elementary School’s library by providing expansion and a technology/media center.
  • $132,000 for improvements to the dual-purpose basketball/volleyball court at Moanalua Elementary School.
  • $175,000 for construction of an accessible route from parking lot to Building C at Kaelepulu Elementary School.
  • $312,000 for resurfacing the parking lot and driveways at Mililani High School.

The New Day Work Projects include a broad-range of projects appropriated by the legislature. The projects have high social value--for example, irrigation systems, energy efficiency projects, educational facilities, and transportation infrastructure. Since December 2010, Governor Abercrombie has approved the release of over $300 million for these projects.
