Hawaii: Gun Ban Bills Advance Out of Senate Committee
from NRA-ILA, Friday, February 28, 2025
On Thursday, February 27th, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance Senate Bill 308 and Senate Bill 401. Thank you to all NRA Members and Second Amendment supporters that contacted the Committee to urge their opposition.
SB308, as introduced, would have expanded the existing ban on standard capacity magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds to apply to all firearms, not just pistols. This bill was amended in committee and will now impose a ban on magazines capable of holding more than 30 rounds for rifles and shotguns.
SB401 would have prohibited the possession of any firearm capable of firing ammunition of 50 caliber or higher. SB401 was amended in committee to exclude shotguns from the proposed ban and would now also provide an exception for firearms covered by the ban that are legally registered as of the effective date of the bill.

Hawaii: Decision Making Hearings Scheduled
from NRA-ILA, Tuesday, February 25, 2025
On Thursday, February 27, two bills that would restrict your Second Amendment rights in Hawaii have been scheduled for a decision making hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Please consider submitting testimony OPPOSING Senate Bill 401 and Senate Bill 308 through the Hawaii Legislative website. For help creating an account and submitting testimony, click here.
SB401 would prohibit the possession of any firearm capable of firing ammunition of 50 caliber or higher. If passed, law-abiding gun owners would become criminals overnight for possessing their currently legal firearms.
SB308 would impose a ban on standard capacity magazines capable of accepting more than 10 rounds. These so-called “high capacity” magazines are standard equipment for commonly owned firearms that many Americans legally and effectively use for an entire range of legitimate purposes, such as self-defense or competition.
Please stay tuned to NRA-ILA and you email inbox for updates as this legislation progresses.
