Today, the Hawai‘i State Ethics Commission published an Advisory Opinion on whether University of Hawai‘i (UH) employees may negotiate and enter into contracts with the UH on behalf of their private businesses under certain circumstances.
The Advisory Opinion concludes that the agreement conforms to the requirements of Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes, sections 84-10 and 304A-1961, et seq., and is therefore exempt from certain sections of the state ethics code, including Conflicts of Interest and Fair Treatment issues.
