GOVERNOR SIGNS BILL TO END DISCRIMINATION

Honolulu –Governor Neil Abercrombie signed into law House Bill 546, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender identity or expression as a public policy matter and specifically with regard to employment.
Governor Abercrombie also enacted House Bill 1640, which allows counties to issue state IDs. That measure goes into effect on 1/1/2013.

To date, 35 measures have been enacted. The Governor has until July 12, 2011 to sign into law all measures that are passed out of the state Senate and the House of Representatives. The Legislature adjourns on May 5th.
