LAWMAKERS HOST PEOPLE’S BUDGET, PART I FORUM TO EDUCATE AND ENGAGE THE PUBLIC IN CRAFTING OF A “PEOPLE’S BUDGET”

WHAT:          State lawmakers host a virtual forum in partnership with Hawai‘i Appleseed Center for Law & Economic Justice to discuss crafting of a “People’s Budget” for the 2025 legislative session.  This first forum in a series of online and in-person events lays the groundwork for a broader understanding of Hawaii’s State Budget – how it is structured, financed, and where funds go - with an overview of the Hawaii Budget Primer 2024–25 by Beth Giesting, Director Emeritus of Hawai‘i Budget & Policy Center. 

Following this overview, panelists will engage in a conversation with former Governor David Ige, with his decades of experience as our most recent past Governor and Chair of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, who will provide insights into how the State Budget is, has been, and can be crafted.

Rep. Amy Perruso represents State House District 46, which includes Portion of Waipi‘o Acres, Launani Valley, Wahiawā, Whitmore Village, Waialua, Mokulē‘ia.
