SB 2487 HD1 (Marijuana Decriminalization) Fails to Pass Final Reading in the Senate
from Hawaii Family Forum, April 22, 2024
The marijuana decriminalization bill has had several ups and downs since Friday last week. Late Friday, we were notified that the Senate had agreed to the House's changes to the bill, effectively moving the bill out of a potential conference committee and straight to the Senate floor.
In today's chamber vote, most Senators voted AGAINST the bill, citing numerous reasons. Watch the discussion here starting at the 48:18 time stamp.
We genuinely appreciate the caution expressed by the Senate members who took the time to rise in opposition. This issue will be addressed in the next session, but we wanted to ensure you received notice.
MAHALO TO ALL OF YOU for taking the time to contact your Senators and Representatives this session. We also appreciate Honolulu Prosecutor Steve Alm and our coalition members for all the work to educate legislators about the dangers.
