Akina column about nurses reprinted in Guam newspaper
Grassroot President Keli‘i Akina's recent column about Hawaii possibly joining the national Nurse Licensure Compact struck a chord on Guam. Lee Webber of Pacific Daily News, based in Hagatna, reprinted the entire commentary in his own column after urging his readers to "take a moment and read Dr. Keli’i Akina’s thoughts on this matter and then think of how we could apply the same thinking on Guam to increase needed professional services locally." Webber is a former publisher of PDN, as well as of the old Honolulu Advertiser before it was merged with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin to become the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Jones Act harm noted in Financial Times article
America's anachronistic maritime law known as the Jones Act, which limits domestic shipping competition and causes high consumer prices and numerous distortions throughout the U.S. economy, takes some of the blame in a new Financial Times article for America’s dysfunctional transportation system.
Says the opening paragraph: "Transport in America is having a crisis moment. You can see it in the headlines — from the debacle at Boeing, through to the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key bridge, to the fact that the U.S. can’t even build its own commercial ships anymore."
