It’s the final countdown to the end of the 2024 legislative session!

As of this week, we have passed the 2nd Crossover Deadline, meaning that all Senate and House bills that are still actionable this year have returned to their respective original chamber. After numerous hearings, much testimony, and previous votes, the Senate passed 182 House Bills out on third reading this week for the Deadline.
Additionally, the Senate has continued making progress on other measures. Over the course of 23 committee hearings, the Senate considered 22 House Concurrent Resolutions and 41 gubernatorial nominations for advice and consent. There was also one Joint Informational Briefing between the Senate Committee on Energy, Economic Development, and Tourism and the House Committee on Economic Development regarding updates on the Maui Economic Recovery Commission’s progress from its launch on January 5, 2024.

Today, the Senate held another extended floor session where a total of 180 House Bills passed third reading for the 2nd Crossover deadline. Over the course of an hour and a half session, the Senators delivered speeches, approved a floor amendment, and cast numerous votes. We also wished Senator Dru Mamo Kanuha a special Hauʻoli lā hānau. Here are a few highlights from today.

Welcome to April! We are officially less than one month away from the end of the 2024 legislative session, and we have been busy in the Senate this week as we work toward this final stretch.
This week was the last week for Senate Committees to hear House Bills. This week was also the last week for Senate Committees to hear Senate Concurrent Resolutions.
Over the course of 40 committee hearings, Senate Committees heard 146 bills, 24 resolutions, and 39 gubernatorial nominations.
Additionally, the Senate passed 19 House Bills out of its chamber on third reading. The most notable bill passed was HB1800, SD1, the Senate's version of the State Budget.
Next week is Second Crossover, meaning that all Senate and House Bills that are still actionable this year will have returned to their original chamber in order to prepare for conference committees.
