Honolulu Hale to be illuminated in blue and white in solidarity with Israel
News Release from Office of the Mayor, 19 October 2023
HONOLULU - Mayor Rick Blangiardi announced Thursday that Honolulu Hale will be illuminated in the colors blue and white from sundown on Saturday, October 21, through sunrise on Sunday, October 22, in support of Israel following the October 7, 2023, terrorist attack by Hamas that killed more than 1,400 people — including at least 29 Americans.
Blue and white are the colors of the Israeli flag.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Israel in their suffering from the tragic events that are unfolding in the Middle East,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “We condemn all acts of terrorism and stand together with our friends in the Jewish community in their time of need.”
“We are lighting Honolulu Hale in the colors of the Israel flag to symbolize our aloha and unwavering support and unity during these difficult times,” the mayor added. “It is important to remember that even across the vast distances that separate us, we are all connected in the pursuit of peace and security.”
The lighting of Honolulu Hale in blue and white will serve as a visual reminder of the strong bonds of friendship and shared values between the City and County of Honolulu and the people of Israel. Mayor Blangiardi encourages residents and visitors to come and witness the special illumination as a symbol of hope, resilience, and the shared commitment to peace.
