RFK Vehicle? ‘No Labels Party’ wins ballot access in Hawaii
by Andrew Walden
Blocked from the Democratic Primaries by State Democratic Parties including Hawaii's, anti-vaxxer candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr is announcing his candidacy for President will go “independent”.
But what does "independent" mean?
Other than Democrats and Republicans, only the Libertarian Party has 50-state ballot access. The Green Party is on the ballot in fewer than half of US states.
In Hawaii, the Green Party, Aloha Aina Party, and Constitution Party lost ballot access in February after failing to get enough votes in recent elections.
This left Republicans, Democrats, and Libertarians as the only parties with Hawaii ballot access.
But now there are four--and RFK has two to choose from.
Queried by Hawai'i Free Press, Nedielyn Bueno, Office of Elections explains:
No Labels Hawaii qualified as a political party for the 2024 Elections through the petition process. Parties interested in qualifying as a political party for ballot access must file a petition containing 862 signatures of currently registered voters in Hawaii. This signature requirement is based on not less than one-tenth of one percent of the total registered votes from the last scheduled general election. In the 2022 General Election there were 861,358 registered voters.
No Labels Hawaii collected 2,145 signatures of currently registered voters and filed their petition with the Office of Elections on July 28th. A notice of No Labels Hawaii filing their petition was posted to our website.
The petition process provides for a challenge period where other parties have 20 business days from the day the party files to file an objection to a party’s petition. August 28th was the objection deadline for No Labels Hawaii and no objections were filed by other parties. No Labels Hawaii is now qualified to field candidates for the 2024 Elections.
Interested parties must submit an application to the Office of Elections in order to receive a petition to utilize in collecting signatures. The deadline for interested parties to file their petition to qualify as a political party for the 2024 Elections is February 22, 2024.

Given the low level of party cash reserves today and the impact of the Maui fire disaster on any other fundraising, “it would be very, very difficult for us to raise that money now,” he said.
