Statement Concerning Pro-Hamas Sentiment
News Release from Hawaii Young Republicans, October 9, 2023
Honolulu, Hawaii - Hawaii Young Republicans (HYR) joined countless governments, organizations, and individuals in condemning the heinous, genocidal attack perpetrated by Hamas against Israel this weekend.
Hamas is a depraved and barbaric international terrorist group funded by Iran, one of the most formidable state sponsors of terrorism. We continue to encourage and support bipartisan solidarity for Israel's national right to self-defense.
However, this weekend also revealed the worst aspects of the violent, anti-Semitic progressive and socialist left. As grieving Israelis process the unspeakable horrors inflicted on them, we saw the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) chapter in New York City rally hundreds in a pro-terrorism demonstration that included clashes with pro-Israel protesters (New York Post: "Pro-Palestinian rally met by Israel supporters in Midtown as Hochul slams 'abhorrent ' demonstration after Hamas attack", October 8th, 2023).
HYR strongly supports the public statements of Governor Kathy Hochul {D-NY) that this protest was "abhorrent and morally repugnant".
What happened in New York City is happening across the country. Pro-Hamas protests erupted from Chicago to Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale (New York Post: "Violent clashes break out at pro-Palestinian rallies across the US in wake of Hamas terror attacks on Israel", October 9th, 2023). These protests, in defense of a genocidal attack which saw the deliberate targeting of innocent civilians for murder and kidnapping, are totally depraved.
This morning, the far-left Sierra Club Hawaii used their 'Envirojustice hi' Instagram account to whitewash the egregious crimes perpetrated by Hamas, bringing hateful anti-Semitic ideology to Hawaii.
At a time when anti-Semitic violence is worsening around the world, we are extremely dismayed and disappointed the radical Sierra Club would use its politically powerful platform to defend Hamas' brutal attack and blame the victims for this.
During the 2022 elections, Sierra Club Hawaii endorsed dozens of candidates/nominees for state and county office. Many of them won and now serve in government. These elected officials now have a choice: they can either repudiate the hate and pro-terrorist sentiment promoted by the Sierra Club Hawaii or they can stand on the side of terrorists who commit monstrous crimes.
HYR will not flinch in holding accountable those who fail to take a righteous stand.
