Governor Abercrombie Announces Circuit Court Appointment

Governor Abercrombie Announces Circuit Court Appointment   Joe Wildman

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  March 18, 2011

Honolulu – Governor Neil Abercrombie today announced the appointment of Joseph L. Wildman as Judge to the Circuit Court of the Second Circuit.  Mr. Wildman fills the vacancy on the court left by Judge Joel E. August who is retiring today.

“I have full trust and faith in Joe's experience and judgment.  He has always put the interests of the people first and I believe he will serve honorably on the Second Circuit,” said Governor Abercrombie.

Mr. Wildman served as an Arbitrator in the Court Annexed Arbitration Program.  Since 2004, he has worked at the Maui firm Takitani & Agaran, where he is licensed to practice before the State and Federal courts in Hawai'i, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.  In 1989, Mr. Wildman established his own law firm in Honolulu and previously worked at two other Honolulu law firms.

Mr. Wildman received his law degree from Southwestern University School of Law and a B.A. in political science from the University of Hawai'i at Mânoa.

Circuit Court judges are appointed to 10-year terms by the Governor from a list of not less than four and not more than six nominees provided by the Judicial Selection Commission.  The Governor's judicial appointees are subject to the consent of the state Senate.
